Swan Princess is an animated film based off of the story of “Swan Lake”. It was recommended to me by a 6 year old girl, and I was surprised that it was a decent movie. It was a fun movie. It didn’t measure up to some of Disney’s princess flicks, and a few of its musical numbers were tedious and out of place. The story’s message only scratched the surface of what it could have been, but it was a kids movie, and I suppose you can’t get terribly deep with kids before you lose them. On its good side, it had humor, sweet fairy tale romance, and it was clean. With a beautiful princess, and handsome prince, and a group of cute and witty animals, this movie certainly will appeal to younger children, especially girls. (continue reading…)

Sequel to How to Train your Dragon?
How to Train your Dragon wowed the critiques and all the rest of the audience. They have earned quite a bit in the box office. Now, they have announced a sequel to the film. Sequels are always exciting, but ponder on this, Are they making a sequel just because it grossed so much money, and they want to make another big hit, or, do they already have a good follow up story in plan? Money making sequels are tempting, but they have to be planned carefully with the right motives. If you have no idea what to do with the characters after the first film, but you REALLY want to make more money on the same franchise, you’ve got a problem. Making films to get more money should never be your highest priority. I’m not saying that that is Dreamwork’s priority in this instance, I’m just speculating. Sequels often go wrong if the prime motivation is to gross huge amounts of money. Not just because you are gambling with this world of unpredictable audiences, but you will also be setting yourself up to make a movie that is expected to be better then the first, and if you do not have a good, original idea of what to do with these characters, your sequel could possibly die in the theaters.
As Dreamwork’s fires the dragons back up for a sequel, I hope they will carefully consider plot, originality, and faithfulness to characters. In that case I would be thrilled to see a sequel.
Question: What do you think about sequels? What are the worst sequels you have ever watched?

Rental of the Week: The Importance of Being Earnest 1952
The Importance of Being Earnest was based off of a play by Oscar Wilde. It was a romantic comedy, filled with dry wit. I had been very curious about seeing one of the movies, so when I found it on Instant play I was very excited.
It was a fun, witty movie, never lacking chuckles. It was not dramatic at all, more like a play rather then a movie, and the romance’s were not terribly romantic. It was really more of a joke on old fashioned courtship, and culture. The character’s were hilariously typical and fun to relate to, which made conversations cute and interesting.
If you’re looking for a good old British Comedy, The Importance of Being Earnest (1952) would be a good pick.
Interesting Trailers of 2010: Letters To Juliet

Alice and Wonderland (2010)
This is the story of an older Alice who returns to Wonderland long after her trip as a young girl, and mixes with the book “Alice and Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass.” Directed by Tim Burton it is an artsy and rather dark tale compared to the whimsical story by Lewis Carol. Some people loved it, some people hated it. It depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for an eye opening film that goes skin deep, you probably won’t find it here; but if you’re looking for great entertainment with laughs, epic 3D, and great characters, Alice and Wonderland is definitely for you.
As I came out of the theater I felt very content. No life change, but it was a very enjoyable movie. Beautiful score by Danny Elfman, and Johnny Depp and the rest of the cast were all great.
So entertainment wise, you will really enjoy the ride. (continue reading…)
